Shiwanda Estate Peaberry

 

The Mbozi District of Southwestern Tanzania is home to the Shiwanda Estate. 

Since winning 2nd place in the Tanzania taste of harvest in 2007, they've consistently been on the short list of "must try" coffee from Tanzania.

The estate is roughly 500 hectares (1,235 acres) of which 150 hectares are planted in coffee. Altitudes at the estate reach as high as 2000 meters.

You'll notice a smaller bean size with this coffee. Peaberries are often more fruit forward than their flat bean counterparts.

As you grind the beans you'll pick up an Earl Grey smell, a sort of Bergamot oil accent, and it's accompanied by dark toffee sweetness. 

Tea notes flourish when this coffee is brewed and If you can let the cup cool a bit, you'll be rewarded with muted tropical fruit notes, and a subtle jasmine pearl accent at the finish.
